Landmarks

Berovo is located in Maleshevia, in the easternmost part of Macedonia, on both banks of the Bregalnica River. According to one of the legends, the town of Berovo got its name when people from the surrounding villages and settlements began to “lift" in the Malesevo valley.

Museums

Almost all settlements in Maleshevia have at least one well-preserved or renovated church. They are of different historical and cultural-artistic value, filled with a beautiful iconostasis composed by the supreme Maleshev masters, decorated with original and artfully valuable icons. Iconostasis icons, as well as other icons owned by churches, are registered by the Institute for the Protection of Monuments and are protected by law.

Nature

Hidden in the slopes of Mount Maleshevo, Berovo and its surroundings hosted dozens of guests who decided to start the development of alternative tourism in the country from there. The initiator of the idea is the Association for Balkan alternative tourism – Balkania, in which, apart from Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Bosnia and Italy are members. For the first time, Balkan Weekend organized for the first time a Forum for alternative tourism, within which Berovo was chosen as the initial destination from Macedonia precisely because of the excellent prerequisites for the development of this type of tourism.
